It is the end of my 6th month at Upper Cross Street. And how was it celebrated? The Upper Cross Street MRT station retaining wall construction was shifted to my side of the road! Gosh! Now you see the tar road, now you don't!
There's also more 'meters' appearing along our row of shophouse.
These are the 'crack meter' and 'tilt meter'.
Obviously measuring and recording the gap between the crack on columns and other vital walls. It was quite scary when I first saw it, imagining that I will end up in the dessert store downstair when the ground give way.
FYI. The new MRT station will be directly below the same-name road. First step in the construction sequence is to divert all the underground service eg. power-supplying high tension cables, telecom lines, which was done in the past few months.
Then at the same time, gigantic machines came in to excavate the ground and cast a very tall and long (the entire length of the road) underground reinforced concrete wall that serve as the boundary wall for the future station. The walls are also the only stronghold for the major excavation work for the station interior.
The problem is that at least one road lane has to be closed during this period and the traffic gets damn bad during peak hours. Even with the 2nd level of ERP gantry around Chinatown!
When will I get to use the station?
