i, from the cookie cutter of the nation's education system
am proud to have been a part of EM1 and the special stream
there had always been social stigma, everywhere
from the school we had attended, to the class that we were assigned
from the subjects we took, to the CCA (or lack of) that we joined
from the number of buttons we buttoned up our collar, to the centimetres that we cut off the skirt
from the places we hang out after school, to the brand of apparels that we wore
from the friends who travelled overseas every holiday, to the friends who conquered the neighbourhood parks and playgrounds
so instead of forcing the education system to revamp
why not the parents look back and recall
how much joy and misery and memories
that this education system has provided
that our children will never get to go through
because we have decided to scrap the system
in the name of "for their good"
when we all know that the evil of these stigma
will never be eradicated
will always thrive from the hearts, of us
me, you, and you
no matter how much we deny or bury the reality under the mat
even after 20 years down this road
