Knowing Kim Woo Bin

Boss say architects need to have “elephant brains”, so that we can remember all those codes and regulations and contract sum at the tip of our fingers. But I would rather keep all those information on the virtual cloud.
I’m not a K-pop fanatic. The only Korea-related thing I do regularly is to watch “Running Man” every week. As for dramas, I am selective. I watched only those that are highly acclaimed or highly recommended by my K-pop chin-gu – aka the poisonous girls. Unfortunately I also have good instinct to know that they are always trying to coerce me to watch boring shows by their bias. So for a long time, I have successfully steered away from dramas. So much so that when I was doing my thesis, I did up a list of to-watch-dramas that I would like to indulge in after my submission, so that they would not jeopardize my production schedule.

Thereafter, there was a period when I got so picky that I refused to even waste 5 minutes with a lousy show - lesson learnt from “Hear**tring”. I got really dependent on Dramabeans, which is my favourite and only online know-it-all and explain-it-all encyclopedia on Korean dramas. Plus I loved the humour from the 2 writer-ladies that I can simply read them for pure pleasure.

So the point is, they have a list of drama ratings, which coincide perfectly with my personal opinion of all the dramas that I have watched thus far. Naturally, the task of drama selection became easy as I just pick the one that ranks high in both departments – the ladies’ enjoyment and the drama production quality.

To put on record, the first drama that stood out in that selection is “School 2013”.

Its first 2 episodes are moderate – high-school bullies, teachers trying to inspire, indifferent school body and pressuring parents. But my outlook turned at the end of episode 3, when this one boy appeared.

Look at this! He has this talent of becoming an angel/devil in like 0.624 seconds! Leaving you wondering 'Omo, how did he do that?!'

And the plot is also amazing, giving the two boys so much to perform and emote with, that you wish that there is more to come after the finale.
(The famous better-love-story-than-Twilight ramyun-sharing scene just breaks my heart over and over again.)

Is he handsome? I’m not sure, since I’ve always know I have judgmental issues. But he sure is tall, and very charismatic. I checked, that day was 26 Aug 2013.

31 hours later, I fell totally in love with Woo Bin & Jong Suk, who have officially joined the ranks of my all-time favourite bromance (OTP: Joong Ki & Ah In) that I was harping about them to the poisonous girls early in the morning.

Eventually, I plunged deeper and dangerously all on my own.

I was shipping both boys at first, and have intended to catch up with all the dramas by them. The problem lies in the sequence of watching. Woo Bin has around 4 of his own and Jong Suk has 3 (excluding Secret Garden that I have seen years ago.)

At the same time while I was pondering on which drama to start on first, I chanced upon a very interesting read. And so, I shared it with the poisonous girls again and commented that I’m going to start on “A Gentlemen’s Dignity”, which has Woo Bin. For some other reasons* the girls highly recommended this drama too. With that, I completed the 20 episodes drama in 4 days – for an unexpected reason – it was boring. But I caught the dim but faithful lollipop-sucking bully nevertheless.

This set me firm to continue with his other dramas as well. I continued to plunge for the red-hair terrorizing genius in the 8-episode “White Christmas” & the perfect oppa in the 3-episode-cameo “To Beautiful You”.

By this time I am totally into him. And there in front of me is the 79-episode ”Vampire Idols” that stopped me in my path. Surprisingly, I steered towards Jong Suk to complete his “I Hear You Voice”. But even before its finale, I know that I was just pushing myself to complete the task I have set myself at the beginning. But I have no interest to catch his “Prosecutor Princess” or “High Kick”.

Because I can’t stop myself from probing into the life of the innocent vampire-turn-idol Gabri (who’s in love with a rabbit mascot) in “Vampire Idols”.

I did asked myself, ain’t I fortunate that this boy’s acting career has just started so it only took me 1 month to catch up with all his works?

Then came the real-time drama - “The Heirs”. And it sparked this conversation that I have posted before. On the week of its premiere, I have got a dinner date with the poisonous girls. We have discussed beforehand that it only takes 2.5 months for the drama to complete then we can finish the entire series in probably 3 days. But confessions came pouring over the dining table as 2 of them have watched the first 2 episodes already. (The drama airs on every Wednesdays & Thursdays.) When the chance-to-speak came to me, I confessed that I have watched them too – albeit Woo Bin’s cut. (Endless laughter & eyeball-rolling.)

How do I determine when I start to like him? When I start to talk to others about him? When I start to follow other like-minded individuals on Weibo and re-post every interesting/handsome thing about him? When I start to save every photos of him in my phone? When I start to write about him on my “not-trivial-stuffs” blog**?

My answer: all of the above.

In conclusion: I am destroyed!

Back to my opening paragraphs, I mentioned about following “Running Man” regularly. This variety show has grown so much on me that it deserves 1/3 of the revolving banner on this blog homepage. And guess what? When Woo Bin went onto the show back in March, I didn’t notice him at all!

I didn’t notice him when he was eating the scorching hot ramyun.

I didn’t notice him when he escaped the room through the windows.

I didn’t notice him when he was tossed into the pool by Kim Jong Kook.

I didn’t notice him when he flashed his dinosaur smile throughout the show.

.·´¯`(>▂<)´¯`·. I was so wrong! So I punished myself now by watching that episode twice every week, followed by the episode when he appeared the 2nd time this October with his “The Heirs” co-stars.

OMG! He's such a cute 'black hole'!

And so we shall see what will happen to me after this. o(´^`)o

# To add icing and chocolate rice onto my Kim-Woo-Bin-fruits-and-nuts-ice-cream-cake, he has a movie "Friend 2" opening in Korea this week that is driving me crazy currently, on top of the weekly "The Heirs" and "M Countdown" telecasts.

Shall post stuffs about the movie at a later date.

*There are CN Blue's Jong Hyun and the 4ever-idols F44 ajusshi in the drama as well.

** This is definitely a “not-trivial-stuffs” post, judging from the number of words that I put in the effort to write.

*** This post shall join my rank of nostalgia story-telling posts: 蜗牛, 工讀生, 改變 & 蘇打綠.
